Interfaith efforts to help homelessness
Horizon House Executive Director, Teresa Wessel was invited to speak about homelessness at Al Salam Foundation’s 2017 Civic Engagement Iftar recently.
If you are not familiar with an “iftar”, it is the meal eaten at sunset during Ramadan. The time of Ramadan is a month when Muslims fast each day from sunrise to sunset. It is also a time when they consider ways to give financially to others in need, or to organizations who are doing good work in the community.
It is unusual for a non-Muslim to be invited to speak at an iftar, so this was a great privilege for Horizon House, and a recognition by the Muslim community of the significant impact that Horizon House is making in the greater Indianapolis area.
Foundation members wanted to learn more about how Horizon House helps homeless neighbors and how they can get involved. We were honored to be at this event and able to engage Muslims to join us to impact homelessness.
